Computer Hardware: Do You Get What You Pay For?
The class has an assignment to research the purchase of a computer system. When purchasing a new computer, one of the first decisions to make is whether you are going to deal with one of the major manufacturers, sometimes called the "tier one" brands. Or are you going to purchase from a local business that assembles systems in their shop or basement? What are the advantages and disadvantages of going with the big brands, or with lesser-known brands? Do you have any personal experience?

i think you dont need to need the bg brand name monitors form out of town. I think that it is beater to suport the people who are in you town and if you have a flatscreen tv or a lcd with the s-video out just use it for your own computer monitor that way you can have a tv and a computer monitor in one simple pacage and it is easy to get the cord from any staples or computer store.
ReplyDeleteor you can be a snob and get the most cutting edge technology available.
ReplyDeleteif u get the most cutting edge technology that dont mean that you are a snob it means that you have cash and want to flont it around which means you think the rules that apply to everyone dont apply to you and should be taut that.
ReplyDeleteI think that if you are a business looking for computers you should definitely buy from the more famous computer companies because smaller businesses can't supply very much.
ReplyDeleteBut, if you’re a person just looking for a home computer you can pick from either one because if you trust the small business and they have good quality you could buy from them. Small businesses are sometimes more reliable because they don't have as many customers so they will respect you more as a customer. But, also the down side of buying them is that they can't give as much warranty and not be able to always buy the top end technology and their prices are usually higher. The advantages of buying from big companies are that they can supply the biggest and best technology and lower prices. But, also they have so many customers that they won't take care of you as a customer as well as the littler companies.
better advantages from a local person would be that it probably costs less and you could ask them to customize it with your own likings. disadvantages might be less of a saftey kit which means virususes could enter with no fire wall etc. Buying from a tier one could mean more exoensive and less likly to get the programs that you want.
ReplyDeleteThis assignment caused me to open up my eyes and fully realize all the different cool things you can add to your to make it run the way you would like. I thought you just went to the store and was like, "Oh this computer is fast, and reasonably priced. Let's buy it!" haha thats what i would do. I would just go to BestBuy or go online and just randomly select the sweetest looking computer. But now i know that there is a lot more to look into. If i were to buy a computer now i would go online and make my own personal dell computer!!!:D:D:D cause ya it would be super fun!!!:P
ReplyDeleteLower prices? Where are you shopping? I've found that the more 'popular' a brand is, whether it's clothes or computers, the more expensive it is. Let me know where you're finding these cheap places cuz I need to start shopping there. My opinion is that, when buying anything for your computer, you should always go with the more expensive and noticed brand and such. It tends to be more reliable.
ReplyDeletedon't always go for the most expensive or the cheapest do some research and decide which would best fit your needs. Yes alot of times the more expensive kinds look better but they don't always work better and it goes the same for the cheaper. My opinion is undecided for which is better...
